Progress : Images by Sophie de Saint Pierre

Drawings of her French Naval ancestor
Sophie's cartoon page

Sophie’s charming drawings tell us about the American Revolution from a different point of view that is so interesting!  And look at how much life she has put into the work itself.

With her permission, I am in the process of adding some backgrounds.

These drawings are deliciously funky and fun.

I love the very direct message and playful attitude wish I could draw with this much freedom!

Because I have Captain John Wash’s pension letter, I know more about his exploits and will attempt to show some of that story where he served three states, Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia. I need to rely on  reference material to some extent and use found online photos and family pictures to help me generate ideas..  Keep in mind that if you borrow images, you must change them at least 40% in order to be legal.  How do I know? Our Art Department sponsored an all day session with a copywriter lawyer for students, and that’s what she said.

The image of John Wash sleeping begins with an online figure and my husband’s face.

One of several experiments ; shading achieved with crosshatching; a window and a cat are added

Another experiments using color, using the Procreate App it has some faded color because of the “layering”

This is nearly finished and closer to what I had in mind, and I moved on to return later.
