D.A.R. HERITAGE ART 2020 INFO.

Washington, Henry & Pendleton going to the First Congress. 1850-1856. New York Public Library.

This site is born of necessity as I volunteered to help my D.A.R. sisters with the annual Heritage art competition, and I think we need a space to gather and share ideas.

“Most people quit drawing around the age of 9 or 10 when they realize they can’t draw a nose. Or sometimes it’s hands.” ….quote from cartoonist Lynda Berry

If this is you, please join me in something non-threatening and fun.  I would love to do a group effort comic book and am looking for willing participants…no experience necessary. As I recently broke my right wrist, it’s perfect timing and fun learning to do things with my left hand, and I will learn right along with you as I am classically trained and have zero experience with this genre.

I am happy to help you all and look forward to a collaborative process.

the rules

Theme: “Rise, and Shine Your Light on Your Revolutionary War Patriot”

Categories Include Art and Sculpture, Crafts, Literature, Drama, Music

General deadline is mid-February excepting an earlier date for fiber arts.

Enter one of 2 ways:

  • Individual member entry,  one per each category
  • Group Entry (especially great if doing something all by yourself seems intimidating.)

    and no patterns or kits

  • a previous submission isn’t allowed
  • for the group entry: Every person within the group must be involved in the planning, creation and execution of the entry.
  • Can you write a poem or compose a song and contribute it to the book? I don’t see why not. As long as it fits our layout I think it might be OK.
  • We will have it bound, or take that step ourselves, but we send photos of the work, not the real thing unless it’s fiber art.
  • Entries are to be postmarked on or before February 15, 2021, so we probably should aim to have everything completed by mid-December.
